Professor Chong-qi Ma, born on June 23, 1949, is a native of Xiangcheng District, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. He currently holds the position of Distinguished Professor in the "Baochen Plan" at Fujian Normal University, a second-level professor in the College of Chinese Language and Literature at Fujian Normal University, and a Distinguished Professor at the Center for Studies of Fujian and Taiwan Fujian Normal University.
In February 1978, I was admitted to the Chinese Department of Fujian Normal University, majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. Due to outstanding performance during my time at the university, I remained as a faculty member after graduation. With remarkable academic achievements and professional contributions, I was promoted to the position of professor in 1995.
In July 2000, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council officially approved the establishment of a second-level doctoral degree program in Chinese Linguistics and Philology at Fujian Normal University. I had the honor of becoming the leader of this discipline as a doctoral supervisor. Two years later, I was appointed as a supervisor in the first-level discipline of Chinese Language and Literature for postdoctoral research in China. Throughout my academic career, I have received numerous honors. In 2002, I was awarded the title of "Outstanding Expert of Fujian Province" by the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Fujian Province. In the same year, I was recognized as an expert enjoying the special allowance from the State Council. Additionally, I have served as a member of the Discipline Evaluation Committee for the 6th (2008.12-2014.12) and 7th (2015.01-2020.12) sessions of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, as well as a member of the National Education Master's (2006-2009) and Education Doctoral Professional Degree Education Steering Committee (2009-2014). Since August 2009, I have been serving as an expert in the linguistic discipline review group of the National Philosophy and Social Science Planning Leading Group's "National Social Science Fund." In December 2010, I became the chief expert of a major project funded by the National Social Science Fund through bidding. In December 2021, I was honored with the title of chief expert of a major project in the field of rare and esoteric studies funded by the National Social Science Fund. Since 2011, I have been a member of the Discipline Evaluation Committee for the "Changjiang Scholars Program" in the field of linguistics, appointed by the Ministry of Education of China. Since 2002, I have also served as an expert in the linguistic discipline review group of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China. In addition, I hold positions such as an expert reviewer for the National Philosophy and Social Science Achievements Library, and director of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Phonology Research Association. I was selected as a leading talent in the "Three Plans" of Fujian Province's higher education institutions in January 2013. In 2021, I was confirmed as a talent of Class A in Fujian Province, and in 2022, I was awarded the title of "2022 Chinese High Contributor Scholar" (receiving four national-level awards).
I have been engaged in teaching and research in the fields of Chinese phonology, Chinese historical linguistics, dialectology, and documentary linguistics for a long time. I have published nearly 30 books and over 160 papers, including one selected for the National Philosophy and Social Science Achievements Library. In terms of awards from the Ministry of Education for humanities and social sciences, I have received the first prize once and the second prize twice. In terms of awards from the Fujian Provincial Social Science Association, I have received the first prize five times and the second prize twice. Additionally, I have undertaken two major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, three general projects, as well as 23 projects funded by the Ministry of Education, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the National Language Commission, and the Fujian Provincial Government.
