Huang Bizhi

Prof. Huang Bizhi, Ph.D., Doctoral Supervisor, graduated from Yunnan Agricultural University in 1985, and returned to China after receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of Wolverhampton, UK in 2001. He has served as Vice President and President of Yunnan Grassland Animal Science Research Institute (formerly Yunnan Beef Cattle and Forage Research Center). He has been awarded the title of State Council Special Allowance, National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, the first batch of "Yunling Scholars", Yunnan Provincial Young and Middle-aged Academic and Technological Leader, Yunnan Provincial Grassland Animal Husbandry Innovation Team Leader, etc. He has served as the president of China Animal Husbandry Association Beef Industry Branch, the chairman of the Ministry of Agriculture's major special project "Research and Demonstration on the Feed Production of By-products of Southern Cash Crops", and the chairman of China Animal Industry Association Beef Branch. He is the president of China Animal Husbandry Association Cattle Branch, the chief scientist of the major special project of the Ministry of Agriculture "Research and Demonstration of Southern Economic Crops By-products Feed", the post scientist of National Beef Cattle and Yak Industry Technology System, the chairman of Yunnan Beef Cattle Industry Technology Innovation Union, and the chief scientist of Yunnan Modern Agricultural Grass Industry Technology System. In 30 years of scientific research and working practice, he has made outstanding contributions to the development of grassland animal husbandry with plateau characteristics and poverty-stricken mountainous areas in Yunnan Province by advocating science, innovating technology and transforming achievements.

Major achievements:

1. He has presided over and completed more than 50 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. After more than 30 years, he led the team to successfully cultivate the fourth new beef cattle breed (Yunling Cattle) with fully independent intellectual property rights in China, which is the first new beef cattle breed cultivated by three-way crossbreeding, and the first new beef cattle breed adapted to the tropical and subtropical areas in the south of China.
2. In 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture listed Yunling cattle as the main breed of southern beef cattle in the "13th Five-Year Plan", and has promoted more than 35,000 breeding cattle and more than 1 million doses of frozen semen in the southern regions of Yunnan and Guizhou. And with the Yunling cattle as the core technology, cultivated "listen to the pasture beef cattle" "three rivers" two "new three board" listed companies, the establishment of more than 30 annual stock of 500 head of basic cow Beef Cattle Enterprise Union.
3. Combined with the characteristics of Yunling cattle breeding and southern cash crop resources, he led the scientific research team to conduct in-depth research on the utilization of the by-products of the major southern cash crops (banana stems and leaves, sugarcane tops, sericulture, ramie, cassava, etc.) for feed, and achieved better results of turning waste into treasure and saving resources.
4. He has published more than 120 papers in domestic and international journals, such as Nature Communications and China Cattle Science. He has edited seven monographs, including Lawn Nutrition and Fertilization (250,000 words), Farmland Grass Planting and Grass Product Development (500,000 words), BMY Beef Cattle (600,000 words), Yunnan Beef Cattle Breeding Technology (460,000 words), Yunnan Rural Beef Cattle Cultivation Technology (500,000 words), Common Forage Plants of Yunnan (960,000 words), Taste of Yunling Cattle (560,000 words).
