Prof. Li Lijuan, born in Shaanxi province, China, is the candidate of “Top Ten Outstanding Women in Science and Technology”. She has taken the national strategy of “accelerating the construction of a world-class salt lake industrial base” as the scientific guide, is therefore focusing on the investigations of high-quality development of lithium, boron and magnesium resources in the salt lake, common key technologies and industrial upgrading of prominent technologies and equipment, the research direction is to green and efficient separation of lithium and boron from brine in the salt lake, high-value utilization of magnesium, and the comprehensive utilization of low grade potash as the goal of high-quality leapfrog upgrading. The research direction is aimed at high-quality leapfrog upgrading.

As the chief scientist and the person in charge, she has undertaken more than 60 scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation projects of the State Fund Committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Qinghai Provincial Science and Technology Department, and enterprises, and has obtained more than 81 million CNY of scientific research funding, and has achieved a number of original and leading basic and applied research results, and the achievement transformation of the new revenue of more than 2.393 billion CNY, and the new profit and tax of more than 746 million CNY, and has achieved significant economic benefits. In the use of extraction technology from the brine of salt lakes, efficient and green separation and extraction of lithium and boron basic materials, the preparation of high value-added magnesium-based functional materials and other research areas, has formed a complete technical system and R & D platform, its disciplinary status and research results at home and abroad have already shown a high level of influence and competitiveness. As the supervisor, Prof. Li Lijuan has trained more than 20 master and doctoral students and formed a stable scientific research and engineering team working in this field.

At the same time, she is a reviewer of international journals such as J. Hazard. Mat., Desalination, Sep. Pur. Tech, J. Mol. Liqui. etc., and a member of the editorial board of Salt Lake Research at home and abroad. She also has published more than 100 papers in SCI and core journals, and has been authorized more than 40 invention patents, and participated in the preparation of two monographs.

Aiming at the strategic needs of national energy security, Prof. Li Lijuan and her team have carried out technical research on the separation theory, application and preparation of high-end materials of lithium and boron in salt lake. They have constructed molecular design models of extractants with different structures and their constitutive relations, determined the specific structure of complexes in the metal extraction process for the first time, solved the problem that the structure of complexes formed in the extraction process could not be determined, formed a prototype of green and efficient lithium and boron separation technology for different types of saline brines at different scales, and constructed intelligent experimental platforms and process simulation systems for the centrifugal, compartmentalized, and tower-type extraction equipments for separating and extracting strategic elements from salt lake, and perfected the “separation theory” of complex systems of salt lake and boron, the application and preparation of high-end materials. Intelligent experimental platform and process simulation system, perfected the “tandem extraction theory” of the complex system of the salt lake, realized the accurate regulation and control of the tandem extraction process parameters of lithium and boron in the salt lake with high magnesium-lithium ratio and large-scale industrial production, and implemented the industrialization of 10,000-ton salt lake brine to promote the international cooperation in the field of green development of lithium and boron resources of the salt lake and to enhance its influence in the international arena.
