Shixiong Hu

Shixiong Hu, born in 1968 in Neixiang County, Henan Province, is the President and a tier-2-level professor at the Huanghe Jiaotong University. He has earned a Doctor of Science from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, completed a postdoctoral study in river dynamics at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University at Buffalo. Professor Hu has served as the director of the GIS and Hydrology lab at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is among the first batch of selectees in the Hunan Province Talents Program and the Shanxi Province Talents Program. He serves as a visiting researcher at Tsinghua University, Sichuan University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Key Laboratory of Land Water Cycle and Surface Processes. Additionally, he is a distinguished professor at Henan University, Changsha University of Science & Technology, and Nanyang Normal University. He has held prestigious positions such as of the chair of Water Resources Specialty Group, American Geographical Society’s, President and Executive Chairman of the International Associations of Chinese Professionals in Geographic Information Sciences. His research achievements and international reputation are outstanding. In 2023, he was appointed as an expert for Nanyang's high-quality development think tank by the Nanyang Municipal Government, as a committee member of the 7th Jiaozuo Overseas Chinese Society, and as a member of the 8th Executive Committee of the Henan Province Chinese Vocational Education Society.

Professor Shixiong Hu's primary research areas include Physical Geography, River Dynamics in Civil Engineering, and GIS Applications. In recent years, he has published over 50 high-quality research papers in prestigious international and domestic journals such as the "International Journal of GIS," "Earth Surface Processes and Landform," "Science China," "Acta Geographica Sinica," and "Journal of Hydraulic Engineering." He has also served as the chairman or session chair for nearly 100 international conferences, delivering invited keynote speeches. Professor Hu has authored and edited nearly 10 books and conference proceedings, holds two patents, and has been recognized with a provincial-level scientific and technological progress award. He has been the principal investigator for over 30 national and provincial research projects, with a total funding exceeding 20 million RMB.

Shixiong Hu is highly accomplished in his research field and is an well-established international researcher. During his teaching experience abroad, he served as the head of the university-level teaching quality assessment committee. Simultaneously, while serving as the Dean of the School of Hydraulics at Changsha University of Science and Technology in China, he led the school to obtain accreditation for two engineering programs and approval for a doctoral program. He possesses a comprehensive and profound understanding of teaching principles and quality enhancement both domestically and internationally.
